I'm new to 'Throw Out Fifty Things" and finding the website, checking it out, reading the posts, articles, all... has been just the motivator I've needed to get my butt in gear. Situations beyond my control wreaked havoc on my home. I've been dragging ass for several months. Gail, and all of you are exactly what I need right now. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Comment by Betty on January 21, 2012 at 8:27am Yep, it's one day at a time. I managed to get the stuff that was in the wing back chair to the Thrift store operated by the Humaine Society. This has been a busy week on the calendar for us..if it wasn't a Drs. appt, it was my p.t. session. Had one day vacant on the calendar and I more or less rested. Since I only manage 4 hrs. of sleep a night, it catches up with me about every 2 weeks and I tend to spend a lot of that day getting off my feet, resting, sleeping or just relaxing with a book so I can regenerize my energy. Last evening, I spent baking sweets for a funeral today for a church friend. This morning, we are heading out to his funeral. I spent most of yesterday catching up on the week's laundry. We'll be gone most of the morning. I did manage to round up some boxes from grocery store, so I can put stuff in to take to Thrift shop or Salvation Army. I've started a list so it should be easy to pick up what I wanted to donate. Unused Xmas gifts, things I don't use anymore. I never wear out any clothing, and I take good care of anything I plan to donate. The lady at the Thrift store the other day said "We'll put this out for display today, I feel it will sell before weekend is up." Of course, I couldn't resist buying something I saw but I only spent $8 for a beautiful plaque to hand on the wall that is shaped like a surf board and says "Paradise" on it. It looks like a Home Goods item or Pottery Barn..Actually it for hanging coat or hats. I thought it would go good as a decorative touch in the sunroom when I do a makeover on it.
Comment by Beth Holmes on January 20, 2012 at 10:52pm Betty, thanks for your personal inspiration! I've been going through stages; one day I'm gung-ho (or maybe even 2or3 days), then I fizzle out. It's OK. I've hauled out 5 bags of clothes, several large boxes of junk and am making visible progress in my home. One day at a time...
Comment by Betty on January 10, 2012 at 4:56pm Beth, like you "Life" got in my way. It's a new year and one of my wing back chairs in the living room is holding "stuff" to give away to thrift store..genealogy software program/books, Police/fireboard scanner, greeting cards, blank recipe cards and more. I pitched out a lot of scrapbooking ideas that I never will get around to..with 48 plus years of photos in boxes under my bed and stuffed in drawers..I'll never get around to that project. It's almost wintersowing time so I'll be sidetracked to that for a few weeks..then those milk jugs of flower seeds are going out into the cold temperatures outside to germinate. This year I have chosen not to sow but a limited amount of milk jugs, 16- or 20..and that's it for 2012..
Next "stuff" to go is paper clutter relating to gardening forums, Garden magazines that are in notebooks but back issues for 3 or more years. The last time I went through them, I took them to our Garden Club meeting and put a FREE sign on them and some man took most of them. I can always use the 3 ring binders and magazine holder they are in for other things. Recipes for large crowds that I pulled off of internet sites will be trashed. I used them when I was part of a team for dinners at church. That ministry disbanded because not enough volunteers..I'll keep working on the list of things to do when I can get to them. When Spring comes/ the garage is my priority. Want to pull everything out of the china, crystal and better dishes cabinet and see what can stay and what can go..I am making a list already of things I know I'm going to get rid of. Just have to wait for warm weather as the garage is not heated. My list for the handyman is getting longer. Some depend on warmer weather, like painting and shelf building for the garage.
Gail, don't give up on me..I enjoy your weekly reminders. It helps me to stay focused.
