Throw Out Fifty Things

The children were gathered at the front examining an array of spray bottles. "What are these for?" asked Mrs. G. "Cleaning!" they all piped up. "And what time of year is it?" asked Mrs. G. "SPRING!" they exclaimed. "Yes, there are some people who use this time of year to clean, organize, and staighten their homes to make things anew." "What else is going on at this time of year in the church calendar?" "Lent." said J. (Gotta love J !) "What do these bottles and Lent have in common?" .....stumped us there (even the adults in the congregation) - are we allowed to give up cleaning for Lent? "Lent is forty days where we can focus on cleaning the clutter in our soul." explained Mrs. G.

Cleaning the clutter in our soul. I am still on the first few chapters in the book. I need to downsize the physical clutter in my life to even begin to see all the hidden areas that could use some attention. But I had a glimmer today of what I want my life to be. I saw a beautiful hawk today, and for one moment it was just him and me, everything else faded away and I was able to focus on the quiet beauty of the moment. That is my goal at the end of this physical, mental, and spiritual de-cluttering journey.

When the end comes, I want to say "It is well with my soul."

Wow, this is beautiful, Jennifer. It's true, when we eliminate the clutter in our minds, we clear our souls. And then we can live in the present - and find the energy and optimism we need to move forward. "Spring forward..."

Affectionately,

Gail

Wow, Jennifer. That's beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us. I can just see the hawk. It's true, letting go of the irrelevant debris of the past creates clarity for the present - and the future. And energy and optimism as well. And that's what we need to move forward...now. You're wonderful.
