Throw Out Fifty Things

Not only do I have 50 years of my own photos, I inherited all my parents' family photos as well. The task of sorting and saving and throwing out is so intimidating, so overwhelming, I don't want to open the first box. I've carried this 'weight' for years. What can I do?

April, I'm so glad you posted! I have the same issue. My photos, my parents' photos, even my GRANDPARENTS' photos! The tub they're all in is five feet long and three feet high and it's FULL. I have three teenaged nephews who will be perfect for the task. Thank you, Katie Zee, for your great idea.

Thanx, Katie. I think I know just the teenager!

Hire a teenager. Seriously. Tell the teen how you want the pictures sorted. For instance, make a box of photos that look like they should be tossed (bad exposures, out of focus, etc.) Sort them by era. The teenager will have fun with this -- the 70's with their terrible clothes. The 50s with their natty outfits. Or maybe you want a box with all the photos of your parents. This is a very good investment of money. The teenager will not be bogged down, as you would, with the memories that each photo evokes.
