Throw Out Fifty Things

Well, sometimes anyway! Recently, a big Wall Street Mogul was passing through my home office and remarked that

it seemed like a beehive of activity.....( in truth, I have nothing that I am involved in of great import, but i had just returned

from a month away and had dumped all the TO DO stuff in the office).........I said NOT really. He said BUT do YOU KNOW

WHERE EVERYTHING IS?  and I said Yes!  (kinda).Often,  with little help, I can go right to what i need within minutes. There is always a vague sense of where something is lurking. To wit, my dear husband, a NONBELIEVER in my process, actually told someone if it hadn't been for my meticulous record keeping, we might not have been able to survive a recent audit!!! All amount of praise, backhanded and third party compliments accepted!!! Now, just to pare down the process and free up more time

so the mind motors can whirl again and get something done.

One TRICK I discovered this summer while working with my nutritionist has proven more valuable to me in eliminating personal

psych clutter: every day on the back of my FOOD INTAKE list, I write THINGS I LOVE and sometimes it's waking at the shore in a fog and having the entire beach to myself for photos unreal and surreal, or running into a friend serendipitously that opens a mind door and allows me to SEE or THINK a new solution, or as simple as watching chipmunks shake the tomatoes off my vine and hoard them in their secret hole, knowing that I have unfortunately provided something for my little friends.

Mental clutter is often as detrimental as physical clutter, but as one begins to move, it begins to trickle down!!!

and to that point, I have been thinking and HEARING PEOPLE LAMENT the LOST FEELINGS OF WHAT TO DO NOW THAT CHILDREN HAVE GONE AND THEY NO LONGER ARE IN TOUCH WITH WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.

I imagine many of you have the same desire to fill that VOID that is creeping into a much larger space and why DON'T we know anymore what we CAN or WANT TO DO? suddenly there's free time and........well..........why don't we sign up and finally DO it

whatever IT is. The inability to define IT anymore after years of zig zagging through the days and having to abort personal plans in order to accommodate a family, a house, pets that demand immediate attention NOW, it is strange, awkward and impossible to

know what I really wanted to do in the first place? I forgot?

Tom Brokaw in his latest book mentions public and private partnerships to help get our nation and our people back on track.

While I don't understand the process completely, it makes sense that we all band together and get things back to where they should be, hopefully eliminating some excess bureacratic mayhem and getting people in touch with one another again all the while

mobilizing education and health benefits for all!!! In watching Mitt Romney's family video, I wondered why his family's chore chart couldn't be expanded to our society and well, you get the drift......Coming together and working on things at a table much like the quilting bees of yore seems like it might put a lot of people back in touch with one another, problem solving and dealing with the isolation and loneliness that often visits as children grow and leave the nest.

So, a nice diversion THIS has proved to be........I digress...........off with my new "friend" the timer to tackle my desk!!!
