Throw Out Fifty Things

Well I am off to a good start..

I am a avid reader and I had tons of books around the house, and I mean a ton! Probably close to 1,000 or more..

Some one gave me a Kobo, which is a eReader..I tell you people, I was hooked from day one!! I love that little machine, as soon as I was able to I logged onto the Kobo site, found some free ebooks and then I found Gail's eBook called throw out 50 things, bought it, read a big chunk of it..Then realized I could do this, so I started of by donating my books to the library and also some to the Read for Literacy program we have here near my town..

So now I can walk around my bedroom and front room again..

Thanks for the great book, now I just got to do my office, get rid of all my little electronic gadgets I don't need, and also all my computer games I no longer play or have time for...Hmm still short of 50 things, maybe the kitchen next..

Now all you got to do is move the furniture, and that is a tough job!! But it sounds like you are really getting organized, way to go!! :-)

You sleep like I do, a few hours at a time, I also have been like that for years, well at least we can get stuff done while we are awake in the wee hours of the morning..

The Thrift Store I can call, will actually come into the house and pick up the goodies I have to donate, I just got to make sure I call them at least 4 days or so before needing them, as they have to plan on what day they can come..

Tobius, We have so many organizations calling and begging for clothing, household goods, etc. A lot want you to put everything outside your door with a sign taped with the Charity's name on it and they don't allow their employees to come inside to pick up anything. Some never show up on days they tell you they will be here or doesn't show up at all. Salvation Army does a lot of good for people in need. I'm going to call them and donate the Sauder Armoire that the color tv was in that I donated a few weeks ago. A lightbulb went off in my head the other night when I was trying to get to sleep, why not give the armoire away, then moved the chest of drawers to my bedroom set to my husband's room, then I could move my other night stand that goes to my bedroom suite on other side of bed. I'd have another lamp for lighting then. Now to get the furniture switched around. Making myself a note to call Salvation Army tomorrow for pick-up.  This morning I started going through paper clutter on my computer desk, and have a trash bag still in room and will be pitching out again when I can't sleep tonight. I manage 4 hr. of sleep a night, have done this for years. About every 2 weeks, it catches up with me though. Had sleep apnea study before and it only shows up overweight, which I've know that for years, and allergies. I've been browsing and have found some wonderful organizing blogs with lots of inspiration.

I know the feeling Betty, I kind of stopped for a bit too, but I did do my home office and trust you me, that was a disaster, now all I got to do is go through the boxes slowly and start making a pile, I have found a store that will actually come to my small town and do a pick up on certain days so  now I have some where to put all my things I don't want, now I have no excuse for holding onto things..

I've kind of lost my way this past week, but hope to get back in sink next week. Have 3 days that there is nothing on the calendar to do.

I feel I got a good start last week, before your book arrived. I donated 2 bags of clothing to our local hospital Thrift Shop, 18 hard back books, 6 brand new puzzles(1000 pieces)that had never been opened and this week, I will be donating video's.

Today Salvation Army picked up a Lazy Boy Recliner and a color tv from us that we no longer use. The TV is Cable Ready and the recliner was in very good condition. My husband needed one of those that have the remote that helps him get up easier. I have some other furniture that is excess that I'm going to be donating too. We were told last week that SA would pickup on Nov. 3 but they arrived this morning instead which was even better for us. Some organizations will not allow their employees to come inside the house, they want it sit out by the curb. My husband took a fall a couple of weeks ago and has a fractured rib and couldn't do any lifting. He said the men came in and took care of disconnecting the tv, and lifting the chair out to the truck. Couldn't have been nicer he said. That is where my donations will go from now on.
