Throw Out Fifty Things

Yes, since Friday. And that is really how I feel!

Page xxi in the Introduction, Gail shares a story about a woman who ended an 11 year relationship when she realized that it was holding her back and weighing her down. I loved the story, but I didn't feel the resonance in my own life. My response was "Good for her!" I realize I was like the frog swimming in a lovely stainless steel pond. Unbeknownst to the frog and me the flame had been ignited under the kettle. Just like the frog, I never noticed the temperature slowly started to rise until it was becoming lethal. A year ago my job started as a part time position, by February 2009 I was an Executive working 50+ hours, 6 days a week, and on call 24/7. Not only had the heat risen, but I had slowly been carving off valuable pieces of my life to accommodate this workload.

I hope someone saves the frog. In my case, I had to save myself. By saving myself, I also saved my children's mom, my marriage, my goals and dreams from an untimely "death."

I realize that this only counts as "one thing", like for the woman in the Introduction. But since Friday I've added: toys, memorabilia, Christmas stuff, all other holiday stuff, books, baskets, hangars, computer stuff, candles, glassware, figurines, cake-pans, an iron, craft kits, flags, lamps, picture frames, silk flowers, collectible plates, tote bags, boxes of cards, shelves, organizational containers, not to mention the boxes (1) & the packing material (1) -which I tend to hoard.

Total so far: 26 since Friday!!!
