I purchased Gail's book 2 weeks ago and while I was reading the book I began to throw things out! As a Massage Therapist I can't stop singing the praises of this book!! What a great way to bring flow and energy back into your life!! I did keep track of most things I have either thrown out or plan to donate. I will enter those items in on another day. Love and light to you Gail and all the rest of us who are unloading!!!

Ok, so I have two major sources of overkill in my life: clutter and food. I'm overweight and overstuffed into a tiny little house a wonderful husband (who came into our marriage with, like, 2 bags), 2 awesome kids (who are my current inspiration for de-cluttering...since their baby gear needs a home!) and 3 dogs (who spend a lot of time outside while I think

This week has been particularly onerous; professional work subsumed everything. Sometimes in life there are tasks, people, etc. that jealously require/demand undivided attention. My needs and wants went on a back burner, which has become a reoccurring theme in my life. But, for the first time I fought to keep a vision actively and consciously present. I wanted to return to, and resume, my vision of serenity that only de-cluttering can provide. My touchstone throughout this professional (and the… Continue

Today I worked on our master bedroom: an old bag of cough drops, old newspapers, prescription inhaler, 8 shorts and tops, 2 shopping bags, 15 items of lingerie, 12 books, 5 old greeting cards from when I had surgery, an unused body spray, decorative candle. Total for the room 10 items.

This is a great note I received form Lillie Richardella the CEO and Corporate Secretary of the International Women's Forum
" You've done it again! You've knocked everyones socks off and left them breathless-all for the good of the cause. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your talent and treasure trove of leadership with women leaders of the corporation, the world and IWF. It makes a huge difference, Gail, and you're generosity of spirit in sharing your gifts brings hope that… Continue

Well, I read the book in one sitting, then proceeded to throw out 50 things -- now we have NOWHERE TO EAT, SLEEP, SIT OR GO TO THE POT! Yes, I threw out 3 brand new toilet seats, the birthday present I requested from my dear husband! But what the hell - that was before I read your book!
Of course, the book is wonderful - but the thing that touched my heart -was your description of your parents, who made you feel you could fly! I would have given anything to have had that feeling -… Continue

I am staring at several likely suspects right now!
Will dive into one of them, while watching the St. PAtrick's Day Parade today. Idle hands......

The children were gathered at the front examining an array of spray bottles. "What are these for?" asked Mrs. G. "Cleaning!" they all piped up. "And what time of year is it?" asked Mrs. G. "SPRING!" they exclaimed. "Yes, there are some people who use this time of year to clean, organize, and staighten their homes to make things anew." "What else is going on at this time of year in the church calendar?" "Lent." said J. (Gotta love J
!) "What do these bottles and Lent have in common?"… Continue

I went ahead with Melissa Lawson's "What if it All Goes Right." Of my possible songs it has the most positive lyrics. I want to keep things positive! As someone else posted, I am looking for the workbook download for Throw Out Fifty Things. Anyone know when that will be up?

The book says you can download the workbook online, and I'm raring to go, but I can't find it anywhere on the site. Does anyone know where it is?

I just finished reading Throw Out Fifty Things
while lying in bed with a respiratory infection. I truly believe it is contributing to my recovery! While I can't get up for a while to do any physical "throwing out" I can work on the mental clutter. I am very caught up in the idea of having your personal song, the one that lifts you up and gets you ready for life's challenges. I have four songs in mind and have not yet decided which one to adopt. The songs are Elton John's "I'm Still… Continue

I bought the book last night, ready through about half of it while biking at the gym this morning and am READY to go.
I started in the bedroom this morning and was surprised at how liberating this experience is already. I purged clothing, shoes, hats, belts, old makeup, costume jewelry and lots and lots of junk.
The hardest thing to part with were all of the birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc. cards from my husband. I talked to him about it first, to let him know my… Continue

I got a little behind on updating the blog last week, so my post for Wed and Thurs didn't show up until yesterday.
I think I did pretty well for the first week. Due to the two men in my life being home over the weekend (who throw a fit if they see me purging items), I think I will be breaking over the weekends from major purging and maybe concentrate on small tasks that they won't notice.
to see the update.… Continue

Yes, it was only day 2 when I felt the whine first coming on...
But, I'm working 6+ days a week, I'm not going to be home until after 8:30 pm this evening, surely missing one day...
I'm sure this has never happened to you.
I made a deal with myself, the goal was one sock drawer before bedtime. That one task led into emptying all of my drawers in the bedroom (and the hope-chest) last night. By bedtime I had a bag of trash, a bag to donate, and a bag of rags.

Maybe I should have picked a smaller task, like the sock drawer... But the vision of actually finding things sustained me. It was incredibly difficult to toss those first few extremely tangled (or broken) chains; and these were the cheep stuff! The jewelry box had become a "catch all." I found a Christmas ornament, baby silverware, & a stain glass window medallion; the most unusual item was a buffalo tooth gained through a Girl Scout Swap exchange dating back to my years in middle… Continue

I was looking for my Girl Scout pins in "The Jewelry Box" on Sunday morning before church. It was Scout Sunday and I wanted to share the day with the other current and "heritage" scouts. It took me 20 minutes to find where they were. The attempt to organize this behemoth container of pins, earrings, necklaces, etc years ago was somewhat helpful, but clearly inadequate. The truth, and you can ask anyone who knows me, is that I RARELY wear jewelry. For the absolutely most formal occasions, I love… Continue
