Monday Morning Motivator: STOP DOING FOR A MINUTE...AND START BEING

STOP DOING FOR A MINUTE...AND START BEING When did just hanging out go out of fashion? When did doing nothing become synonymous with laziness? When did we decide that if we weren't constantly connected we were totally out of touch? When did we go from human beings to human doings?  And can we go back again? Yes. We can. We just have to learn - or re-learn - how to be. But that's easier said than done in the work-obsessed,…See More

Monday Morning Motivator: I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW, THE RAIN IS GONE...

I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW, THE RAIN IS GONE..."...I can see all the obstacles in my way, gone are the dark clouds that had me blind, It's gonna be a bright, bright Sun-Shiny day..." I always loved that song written and sung by Johnny Nash - and it popped into my head this morning when I found myself amazed by the extreme bright "blueness" of the sky. I'm sure it's been that color before, maybe even bluer, but I guess it had faded from my memory with gray having been the predominant shade for so…See More

Monday Morning Motivator: BETTER THAN SHE’S EVER BEEN...

BETTER THAN SHE’S EVER BEEN...   I betcha Spring is best this year Better than she’s ever been Or tried to be... Like warmer and wearing a great big grin And full of gin....and tonic.  I betcha she comes swingin’ in Takes a bow, does a spin, Then holds her pose And waits... for the applause  So raise your glass,  Give her a cheer (Okay, she was late but she made it here!) Then maybe she’ll come sooner Like, next year...  I wrote the first stanza of this little poem when I lived in Washington…See More

Monday Morning Motivator: DON'T DO THE MAN WITH THE JACK!

DON'T DO THE MAN WITH THE JACK! There's an old story, originally made famous by the legendary comedian, Danny Thomas, that my dad told me when I was a kid. It popped into my head the other day...and not a moment too soon. Here's how the story goes: There's this traveling salesman who gets stuck one dark night with a flat tire on a lonely country road. He pops open the trunk and sees the spare but there's no jack. "Oh Great! That's all I need!" he yells. "Now I've got to walk all the way back to…See More

Monday Morning Motivator: HAVING FUN THAT IS FUNNY

HAVING FUN THAT IS FUNNY  You remember Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat: "I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny, but we can have lots of good fun that is funny.” Well, it’s not sunny - and it sure is wet - and it hasn’t been all that much fun lately - or all that funny. Spring seems to be taking her good ol’ time, playing hard to get, flirting with us, doing the old bait and switch routine. And Winter, well, he’s like that guest who doesn’t “get it” that the party ended an hour ago and wants…See More

"Fabulous Gail.  This one is being printed and hung up in my office with the following highlighted - Ask yourself this question: What do I choose? To be right - and stop? Or to let it go - and move forward?   I can blame it on the fact…"

Monday Morning Motivator: WHAT'LL IT BE? QUIT... OR SWIM?

WHAT'LL IT BE? QUIT... OR SWIM? "Judges and timers ready!" shouted the starter. "Swimmers, take your marks!" We all stepped onto our starting blocks, crouched in the start position and waited for the gun. I focused straight ahead, staring at the other end of the fifty-meter pool. The water glistened in the hot Indiana sun. My heart slammed. It was a two-day regional competition organized by the Amateur Athletic Union as a qualifying event for the Women's Nationals the following month. Here's…See More

Monday Morning Motivator: "GOOD GIRL!"

"GOOD GIRL!"  “Good girl to sit!” “Good girl to tinkle outside!” “Good girl to come!” “What a good girl you are! Yes you are!” That’s me talking or, rather cooing, clucking and sometimes shrieking to our Golden Retriever, Willa. It all started when she was a puppy. She’s our third “Golden” and although both her predecessors were fabulous, greathearted and totally beloved, neither was known for being particularly uh, well-behaved. And neither of them ever stopped jumping up on people to lick…See More

Thanks for your encouragement! I wouldn't describe myself as a hoarder, but once in awhile I get distracted & things start to build up.

Just finished listening to the book, loved it, have started to listen again for continued motivation! Was sitting with my husband late last night at the kitchen island deep in discussion, when out of the blue, he said, "have I ever told you how much I hate that stuff there on the window sill?" It took me about 5 seconds to jump up, grab every item and every plant except the aloe (JUST in case) and ran to the trash can. Wiped off the sill, added my favorite little pitcher (an immediate warm memory for me of my 1960's childhood, no longer lost among the clutter!) and instantly felt 100% better! Thanks for helping me remember that less can be more!

Hi Gail! I am sorry I was out of touch for so long. But you will be happy to know that I was working on the program. I am almost finished and have learned a lot about myself. I will be writing about my discoveries and realizations in the coming weeks. Through this process I finally found the strength to make an important decision. It was not easy but it was right. More to come....

What did I throw out? The cat, of course!
Naw, only kidding. That's Temujin, my fierce warrior pal. If he had his way, I'd be throwing out a lot more.
I started in the bedroom today and finding lots. The bedroom has been a place to hid my junk from visitor's eyes. Besides clothing, I am getting rid of an old aquarium that does really make me feel bad. I wasn't so good about keeping those fish alive.
