This is the time of year to take a look back at (and celebrate) those moments...when you found something inside yourself you didn't know (or forgot) you had...and pulled it out. Maybe you stopped to help someone you'll never in a million years see again - when it would've been so easy to keep going. Maybe you stood up when standing down would've been understandable and even politically astute. Maybe you said, "No, here's how it's going to go." (Or not going to go...) Maybe you drew a line...or erased one, if that's what needed to be done. Look, this doesn't have to be the time you cured world hunger; it might just be the time you fell down - and got back up again. But it's always a time after which you never think of yourself in quite the same way again. Think about the last 12 months; go back further, if you like. Make a list of those moments. Share them with the people you love; listen to theirs. (We do this every Christmas Eve in our family.) Share them as a team. You'll find a pattern will emerge. And the pattern is called "courage." And then ask yourself - and the people around you - "Hey, if we could do that, what else could we do?" And the answer will come right back: "Whatever we decide."
Please go on www.throwoutfiftythings.com; and click on "start discussion" or "post blog" to share a defining moment and take courage from hearing about someone else's. We have a New Year full of possibilities ahead of us...and we need courage to turn them into realities.
