Throw Out Fifty Things

DON'T GET WORKED UP! CLEAN IT UP!

...we're talking money here

How many of us are totally overwhelmed by the mess our financial lives are in - not only because things are tight - but because we've allowed "money plaque" to build up - in the form of old financial documents, unopened bank statements (that strike home?) old paycheck stubs, bills, credit card records, tax returns, the list goes on...(There are "rules" about what to keep and what to shred; follow them!) Hey, it's spring - the perfect time to delete the "financial debris of indecisions" that got us into this mess, right? Oh, and while you're shredding your old bills, how about shredding your old FEARS about money? Like the fear of not having enough, making enough, being enough...enough already! How about dumping that old "What if I turn out to be a bag lady" fear?  And, now that you're warmed up, how about tossing out your old negative relationship with money? You know what I mean: the "'l really don't want to know what it looks like..." attitude. (That ring a bell?) Would you not get an MRI or a stress test because you didn't want to "know" what it says? But what if we treated our relationship with money the way we treat other important relationships: with respect? Like the respectful way we treat the relationship with our children's schools or the relationship with our parents' healthcare providers? Here's the bottom line: This is the time to create bright new beginnings - and that takes the kind of optimism that comes from letting go of anything that makes us feel bad about ourselves - including all that self-imposed anxiety about scarcity and lack - and replacing it with decisions about what's actually important and precious in our lives...and what isn't. And then deciding to ACT on those decisions! Take a look at an interview I did recently with NPR's Michel Martin  ("Tell Me More") about how to "spring clean your financial life"...without getting worked up! Listen to Gail Blanke on NPR
