Throw Out Fifty Things

                               STOP CRITIQUING YOURSELF!

When you're presenting your ideas, asking for the order or in any important conversation, do you find that you ask yourself, "How'm I doing? Do they like what I'm saying? Do I sound like an idiot?" Don't do it. Don't critique as you go. Why? Because your automatic self-assessing distracts you from your message and lessens the impact of your words. And when your audience senses your distraction, you lose them. Let your passion for your point carry you forward; assume that the right words will come (and they will) and concentrate on connecting with your listeners. Think about those Olympic figure skaters: They let their bodies do their thing - and stay out of the way. If they start critiquing, they fall. The time for critiquing is at the end of the "performance" - not in the middle of it. Remember what Yogi Berra said: "You can't think and hit at the same time." Let yourself go. You'll be great.
